The state of Washington tends to be more expensive on average than the rest of the country, but Vancouver’s cost of living is slightly lower than Washington’s at large. Esther Short Park, Washington state’s oldest public square, hosts a weekly farmer’s market featuring fresh produce and locally made goods. Those who appreciate classic architecture should visit Officers’ Row, a Vancouver neighborhood that contains a total of 22 homes built in the 19th century and restored to their former splendor for visitors to explore. The oldest of the homes was built in 1850 and once belonged to former president Ulysses S. Grant.  

Local Culture

Vancouver’s Recycled Arts Festival is held each June and features work by dozens of local artists that is made up of a minimum of 75% recycled or reused materials. The Vancouver art scene has been on the rise since the early 2000s, particularly due to the attendees of the monthly local forum “Art Conversations.”
