The Metro Transit bus offers free rides to students that attend the University of Wisconsin. It is also used to transport some Madison middle and high school students. The Metro Transit service is expanding in Madison to reduce travel times by creating a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that specifically serves this city. 

The Dane County Regional Truax Field Airport serves the Madison area, the General Mitchell International Airport is about 77 miles outside of town, and the Chicago O’Hare International Airport, which offers the most connectivity, is 107 miles away.

You can expect about 40% of the year to be partly cloudy in Madison, and the temperature varies from 13°F to 82°F throughout the year. The wet season lasts about six months, from March through October, and has an average annual accumulation of 34.5 inches. Snow accumulates to about 42 inches per year. Winters are frigid, windy, and dry, and temperatures vary from 13°F lows to 38°F highs. The cold months last from November through March.  Summers are warm and wet. Temperatures can range from 64°F to 82°F during the hot months (May-September). The best time of year to visit Madison for outdoor activities is mid-June to early-September.
