College sports are a big deal in the city. The University of California at Irvine (UCI) has an athletic program that supports teams for 18 NCAA Division I sports, including basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, and track & field. The UCI Anteaters have won 28 national championships across nine different sports. 

Weather and Climate

In Irvine, summers are short, warm, and arid while winters are long, cool, and partly cloudy.   Temperatures range from 47º lows in December to 82º highs in August. You can expect the most rain in December, with 2.4 inches of precipitation on average.  The best time of year for warm-weather activities is from late May through mid-October.  Because of its location, Irvine is at risk for earthquakes, wildfires, flooding, and landslides.
