The city of Joplin, MO is part of both Jasper and Newton counties. Joplin is the central hub of a three-county Metropolitan. The discovery of lead and zinc in Joplin Creek Valley attracted a new population and led to many new mining camps around the region. The infamous Route 66 runs through the east side of Joplin. The Best Neighborhoods in Joplin, MO 

Most of the city’s neighborhoods date back to before the 20th century. Many historic communities have beautiful structures and are highly sought out places to live. Many homes are small in size, representative of their historic mining community. Some historic living areas include Historic Murphysburg, East Town, and North Heights. The more established neighborhoods featuring a range of mid-century modern, traditional, and contemporary styles are found in the city's southern part. These are closer to Missouri Southern State University and retail areas and has easy access to I-44. Local Sports 

The first minor league baseball team, the Joplin Miners, played for 49 seasons between 1901 and 1954. Mickey Mantle and Whitey Herzog, who played for Joplin, were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. In 2019 the Joplin Miners (Southwest League) played their first season. You can catch one of their games in person at the Joe Becker Stadium that seats 4,200 spectators.

The climate of Joplin, MO is classified as humid subtropical. It has cool, dry winters and hot, muggy summers. The rainy season is from April through June. The high temperatures average out to 80.2ºF in the summer. The low temperatures average out to 34.9ºF during the winter. The total annual accumulation of rain averages 34.6 inches per year, and 11.9 inches of snow. The weather varies significantly from year to year, with the coldest temperature on record being -21 °F, and the highest temperature on record being 110 °F.  This city is prone to many tornadoes as it is located in Tornado Alley.
