The city of Albany offers the finest theatres, restaurants, shops, and night clubs in the region.  Buckingham Lake is a neighborhood with single-family homes, beautiful hiking paths, and a relaxing pond. Getting Around in Albany 

The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) provides public transportation for the region. CDTA offers over 50 bus routes, including 29 routes that connect to downtown. Fares are $1.50 per ride or $4.00 for an all-day pass. The BusPlus offers commuter rail services to limited locations. CDTA ACCESS provides specialized services for seniors that qualify.  

Albany is accessible by major highways, including I-90, I-87, and I-88, making it easy to travel to nearby states. Commute times average to 18.8 minutes. The Albany International Airport is easily accessible within the city limits.

The Local Sports Scene 

Albany has a plethora of professional and college sports teams. The most popular sport in the city is thoroughbred horse racing at the Saratoga Race Course, the oldest race track in the USA.  

Local legend claims the game of baseball was invented in Albany. The major league baseball team, the Troy Trojans, played for four seasons, from 1879-1883. Many famous MLB players once played for the Albany-Colonie Yankees, a minor league team. 

Other professional local teams include the Adirondack Thunder (NHL), the Schenectady Legends (International Basketball League), the Albany Patroons (The Basketball League), and the Albany Metro Mallers (a semiprofessional football team). The University at Albany Great Danes is an NCAA Division I team. The university hosts the New York Giants summer training camp every year.
