The fun never stops in Pigeon Forge, which is why even the city’s public transportation system resembles classic 20th-century trolleys and is referred to as “Fun Time Trolleys”. This system operates throughout the city with more than 200 stops and all trolleys are fully equipped with lifts for wheelchairs.

Local History

Pigeon Forge gets its name from an iron forge built in the area around 1820. For most of its existence, Pigeon Forge was a relatively isolated mountain town at the foot of the Smoky Mountains; however, as more and more tourist attractions, outlet malls, and venues for live music were built in the area throughout the mid 20th century, Pigeon Forge grew exponentially. The most significant growth in Pigeon Forge occurred when theme park Silver Dollar City was reimagined as Dollywood, a theme park dedicated to legendary country singer Dolly Parton, who was born in the area.

Dollywood is one of the most significant draws to Pigeon Forge for tourists. However, visitors can also check out 35-acre water park Splash Country, the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster, or the Island in Pigeon Forge, a massive amusement park packed with rides, shops, restaurants, and hotels.
