What is Corpus Christi’s Local History?

Alonzo Alvarez de Pineda discovered this bay area in 1519 on the Roman Catholic Feast Day of Corpus Christi, which means "The Body of Christ," and since then, the name stuck. In 1838 Corpus Christi started as a trading post. The Army was assigned to this area in 1845 to await orders before the Mexican American War. This brought in many settlers, and the city began to grow. The official city of Corpus Christi was established on September 9, 1852. Since then, this bay has become the largest city on the Texas Coast. Today, this area is a popular tourist destination as it has beautiful beaches, pleasant weather, and a plethora of attractions to enjoy.
