Yes. Both Bossier City and Bossier Parish were named in honor of Pierre Evariste John Baptiste Bossier, a cotton planter and one of the area’s early settlers. In the 1830s, the town grew from the Elysian Groves Plantation owned by James and Mary Cane. It was originally called Cane's Landing, where cotton, corn, and sweet potatoes from the plantation were shipped to markets in the south and the east. The town was classified as a city in August 1951.
