When was Maryville, TN Established?

Maryville was established in 1795 by the general assembly of the Territory South of the Ohio River, a year before Tennessee became a state. Seven commissioners appointed to obtain 50 acres of land for a new town chose the area in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains for its abundance of spring water. The city was named Maryville in honor of Mary Grainger Blount, wife of Gov. William Blount.
