Local History

Draper was named after William Draper III, who arrived in the area originally known as South Willow Creek with his wife Elizabeth and their family in 1850. They moved to the area to join their relatives, Ebenezer and Phebe Brown who settled there a year earlier. Draper became the first presiding elder of the area’s Mormon community. In 1854, the town was renamed Draperville in honor of Draper when it applied for a post office. Draper was incorporated as a city in 1978.
